Mask Size Guide

The world has many faces and shapes, so sizing a mask is not an exact science.

The correct size depends on the STYLESEAL mask style since the AIR and PRO fit a little differently.

Some key points to note first are:

  1. If you are a returning AIR mask customer, do not necessarily order the same size PRO mask. The AIR and the PRO are worn differently, as illustrated in the sizing guide image below.
  2. The AIR mask should be worn so the bottom of the mask fits just below the chin line. The reason for this is to facilitate the exhalation valve which is located directly below the nose.
  3. The PRO mask is larger in size since it is designed to be worn farther under the chin. An exhalation valve for the PRO will be available in early 2023 and is located on the front rather than the bottom.

  1. The AIR and BASIC masks are available in 4 sizes – S, M, L, and XL, while the PRO is available in 5 sizes – S, M, M+, L, and XL.
  2. The BASIC masks are very similar in size to the AIR with the BASIC just slightly larger.  You can use the AIR sizing information for the BASIC.
  3. Note that many people could possibly wear two sizes. Some like a smaller mask and others prefer a larger one. What’s most important when picking a mask is that it seals snugly around your face. This is possible with both larger and smaller profile masks.
  4. Beards and facial hair prevent a seal and are not recommended for the best results.  If you have a big beard, then select larger just to be safe.

Once you have selected the mask style you want, we offer 2 methods to help you select the correct size:

  1. Age & Build Method
  2. Face Measurement Method

The Age & Build Method is the simplest and works fine for most people.  However, if you want to take the time the Face Measurement Method should be more accurate.

More on why mask sizing is important

According to the CDC, “ensuring that masks fit well on the face is very important to help prevent getting and spreading COVID-19. A common problem with some masks is that there can sometimes be gaps between the mask and the mask wearer’s face. When there are gaps, air with respiratory droplets containing the virus can leak in and out around the edges of the mask (on the top or the sides). To help prevent air leakage, masks should fit snugly against the sides of the face and not have gaps.

Follow our size guide, and adjust your fit to make sure that your mask:

  • Completely cover the nose and mouth
  • Fit snugly against the sides of the face and not have any gaps

If you are not happy with your mask size

People like to wear masks differently and because there are so many different face sizes and shapes a good fit cannot be guaranteed. If for some reason you are not happy with your mask size, we are happy to exchange it.  Another idea is to simply give the wrong size mask to a friend or family member and order the new size for yourself. An inexpensive gift to show someone you care.
